Falknors Needling
This is a minor surgical procedure used to treat stubborn verrucae caused by the HPV virus. Performed under Local Anaesthesia, a sterile needle repeatedly punctures the lesion to push viral particles into the deeper skin layers, triggering an immune response to hopefully destroy the virus.
As with ALL verruca treatments whether its cryotherapy, acid, swift or laser treatment - there are no guarantees that the treatment will work.
What are Verrucae?
Verrucae are plantar warts commonly found on the soles of the feet or around the toes. Caused by the HPV (human papilloma virus).
Although warts can be cosmetically unsightly, they are not harmful, usually do not cause symptoms, and most resolve without treatment.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, this may involve various injections in the foot. The area will stay numb for approx 2-4 hours so we advise you don't drive yourself to the appointment, get someone to bring you.
The area is cleansed, a needle is used to pierce the verrucae 100-150 times. Once completed a light dressing is applied with a deflective pad which needs to remain in place and dry for 24hours.
It is advisable to avoid taking NSAIDs (Ibuprofen) or other anti-inflammatory medications for 48 hours to increase the likelihood of a successful controlled inflammatory response.
Please be advised that no single treatment for verruca and warts is 100% effective, and there is no guarantee that the verruca will not return.
